Ogopogo - Miller |

Representatives of the media seldom have the good fortune to be present at a monster sighting, but one journalist boating on Okanagan Lake near the town of Vernon got lucky on July 17, 1959-although not lucky enough to have a camera handy. Mr. R. H. Miller, editor of the Vernon Advertiser, was accompanied by his wife, their friends Mr. and Mrs. Pat Marten, and the Martens's son Murray. They were on their way home early that evening when Miller noticed a large creature following in the wake of their motor cruiser at a distance of about 250 feet. Pat Marten, who was steering, turned the boat around for a better view. As they slowly drew closer, the Millers and Martens studied the creature through binoculars and were unable to reconcile its blunt-nosed, snakelike head with that of any animal they knew. Itself apparently none too pleased at what it saw, the creature gradually submerged and disappeared from view. (Janet and Colm Bord, Alien Animals , pp.6-8) Comments (0)
