Loch Ness Monster - Dennis L Meredith |

Nessie sightings were frequent in the months following the June 1975 expedition. Two occurrences, reported by science editor Dennis L. Meredith after a season at Loch Ness, stand out from the rest for their almost carnival-like extravagance. On July 8, 1975, teacher Alien Wilkins and his son Ian, at lochside about a mile and a half south of Invermoriston, established what was probably a record for repeated sightings. At 7:20 A.M., and for some moments thereafter, Wilkins saw a 20-foot-long black shape appear and disappear some distance down the loch. At 10:12 Wilkins, accompanied by his wife and several other watchers, saw and photographed three large triangular humps moving about in the water in a playful manner. The humps vanished when a motor-boat appeared. At 9:25 P.M. Mr. Wilkins and others watched a black patch as it emerged from the water, revealing two humps. The thing rolled forward seconds later and disappeared. At 10:25 Wilkins and his fascinated companions saw three closely spaced humps about four feet high, one following the other in a graceful curve in and out of the water. Finally, they all submerged together. On July 12, 1976, two Inverness mechanics were in a boat about a quarter mile oft Abriachan Pier when they saw a hump trailing in their wake. Curious without being especially surprised, lan Dunn and Billy Kennedy turned around and headed back for a closer view. Then they were surprised.
Weaving and bobbing around them were five black humps, about 10 to 12 feet long and 2 to 3 feet high. Seared but spellbound, Kennedy and Dunn put on their life jackets, held on to their rocking boat, and watched the display for 15 minutes. "It was like getting caught in the center of a school of whales," Dunn said afterward. Then a rainstorm swept down the loch, and the men started shoreward-followed for a while by one of the beasts.
