1996: Haroldo Westendorff Brazilian UFO

Written by theunexplained.org

On October 5, 1996, at 9:00 am, after having breakfast, Haroldo Westendorff took off from Pelotas' airport. At 10:15 am, when flying over the Saragonha Island, at Patos Lagoon, about ten miles away from the airport, a huge flying object surprised him. When he recovered from the scare, he managed to fly the airplane close to the object, and he flew around it for ten minutes, keeping three hundred feet between his plane and the object.

A pilot since the seventies, Westendorff claimed the object was cone-shaped, 50 to 60 meters tall, and said its base was as big as a soccer stadium, about 100 meters in diameter.

While flying around the UFO, Westendorff observed the object was made of metal or something similar. The base was smooth, and had 8 vertices, each one with three objects similar to bubbles. The object was spinning and flying towards the sea. Westendorff didn't notice any hostile reaction from the UFO.

Westendorff contacted the Infraero room at Pelotas' airport by the radio, and reported the sighting. He asked Airton Mendes da Silva what he could see in the Easterly direction, towards the 15/33 runway. Da Silva said he saw a triangular gray object, with rounded edges. He was accompanied by assistants Gilberto Martins dos Santos and Jorge Renato S. Dutra, who tried to identify the object together.

Westendorff also contacted Cindacta II, in Curitiba, Paraná, which was responsible for watching the skies of southern Brazil. They answered there was nothing strange on the radars, even though Westendorff's plane was detected.

Suddenly, the edge of the UFO opened and a smaller UFO emerged. It inclined 45 degrees and flew away into the sky at an incredible speed. Frightened, Westendorff stayed away from the object. Afterwards, the larger UFO also climbed up into the sky, incredibly fast, without making any noise, wind, explosion or any other expected physical reaction.
