1989: Russian UFO Encounters

Written by theunexplained.org

The Soviet press agency TASS reported several encounters that had taken place in the industrial town of Voronezh in Russia during September 1989. Peter Hough later verified details with Dr Henry Silanov from the University of Voronezh, who interviewed several of the witnesses.

The main events happened between September 23rd and 27th. According to Dr Silanov there were six landings and one 'hovering' UFO encountered. Most of the witnesses were school children. Dr Silanov had 'no doubts' that they were telling the truth.

Student Vasya Suren described how he was playing football with some friends in the park when they hecame aware of a pink haze, like a 'bonfire in a fog' above a nearby factory. The boys stopped playing and were observing the fog when a red sphere suddenly emerged. The object flew towards a tree, and rested precariously on its top branches.

As the boys kept watch, a door opened in the sphere allowing a tall being with three eyes to emerge. Another followed, and together they reached the ground. A young man at a nearby bus stop was paralyzed by the second being and only released when the sphere flew away.

This was only one of several close encounters witnessed around the town. They featured silver suited beings that bore no resemblance to the small grays of American UFO lore. Despite their 1950s feel, fundamentally the stories ring true.
