In Delphos, Kansas, a sixteen-year-old boy suffered an encounter that left undeniable traces of its presence. Ron Johnson was working on his parents' farm on November 21st 1971 when he experienced the encounter.
Ron was in the sheep pen with his dog at about seven o'clock when he heard a rumbling sound like an old washing machine turning through its cycle. He looked up and saw a mushroom-shaped object about seventy-five feet away hovering just off the ground. It was covered in a blaze of lights, which were so bright that they hurt Ron's eyes. The sheep were obviously frightened and began to bleat, but the dog and boy were strangely subdued.
Suddenly, the base of the UFO became even brighter and the craft took off, passing overhead at a forty-five degree angle. Ron ran to the farmhouse and told his parents what had happened. They joined him outside and watched the object disappearing into the night sky.
Below where the UFO had hovered a luminous gray white ring had appeared on the ground and, nearby, some trees emitted a faint glow visible in the dark. The Johnsons touched the soil. Mr. Johnson said it felt cool, and his wife added that it made her fingers numb. Both adults developed a numbness over the next few weeks, and Ron developed headaches and eye irritation. He also suffered from nightmares.
Ufologist Ted Phillips had an analysis of the soil carried out at several laboratories. Unfortunately, the laboratories produced contradictory results, so the tests were inconclusive. However, the case did show that UFOs can bring about changes to our environment.
