Not Alone

Written by Anne-Marie_x

Every time I hear about anything paranormal that happens to anybody, my curiosity to see or experience one for myself grows stronger. I always want to hear stories like those, though my friends and relatives don't agree with my fantasy since my sister already told me that there are things in life that are better left unsaid. I always believed in ghost stories.

I was in junior high school when I decided to do the not-so-dangerous spirit of the coin with a friend who knows how to do it. We chose the spirit of the coin over the spirit of the glass because there's a lot to consider. So, we chose the spirit of the coin as it's easier. We've enjoyed doing the spirit of the coin but never expected that the following days will change my life as my wish did come true! It happened when I spent my summer break in our vacation house together with my sister and a stay out caretaker/maid.

One night when I was half asleep I heard a few knocks on the door. I awoke and stood up to open it. When I was able to check it, no one was there. It happened twice so I decided to go to my sister's bedroom and see if she's the one who knocked. She was talking to her boyfriend on the phone so I thought she was the one who knocked because she's still awake. I suddenly felt thirsty so I went to the kitchen to get some water. While I was drinking I felt a strange coldness so I checked if I left the fridge open and found out that I closed it. I then noticed in my peripheral vision a fog-like image going upstairs so I suddenly turned my head to see if it's real but I've seen nothing. I told myself that it must be my imagination so I just ignored it, I went to my room and fell asleep.

After a few days, that strange feeling again awakened me in the morning. The thought that I'm not alone in my room horrifies me so I decided to take a peek pretending I'm still sleeping if I'm really not alone. I saw a familiar woman, wearing a white dress with long hair sitting in one of the chairs a few steps away from me looking outside the window. I then heard her say, "I am here to protect you". I was really horrified and planned to scream but I realized it's a friendly ghost so I decided to just blink my eyes. When I opened my eyes again, she was already gone.

I rushed and opened the door, calling anyone who's around. My sister and the maid who were taking their breakfast came out of the kitchen and hurriedly asked me what happened. Even while in shock I told them that I saw a ghost of a woman. My sister chuckled; barely believing what I've told them uttering, "I told yah!" I then noticed a portrait at the wall and saw the same woman at the window. It was our great grandmother for heaven's sake! The caretaker/maid then said, "She's always here" as she looked at me too. We then visited the family mausoleum and uttered a prayer. When the school year started, my friends asked me how's my vacation, I told them that it was horrifying but great!
