Hong Kong Bride

Written by Mae

I was packing up my things and was so excited about our one week vacation in Hong Kong. This was not my first time to visit this beautiful country. Every year, we see to it that we prepare our cameras for the upcoming Halloween season. Chinese are so fashionable and creative. Although they don't have the trick-or-treat tradition, there are a lot of them who participates in the yearly costume parade.

We arrived at the airport earlier than the scheduled time, and as usual, many people all over the world came to visit to watch the parade. With all the people in the line, I noticed that there's this one lady who dressed as a bride. She was staring at me blankly. I just lost my focus on this lady when the Chinese guy called me and said that it's my turn to show him my passport. After which, I tried to look for the lady but she was nowhere in sight. But because of too much excitement to get to our hotel and to do some shopping, I tried to ignore the thought of her since I can't seem to find her anywhere.

After having a whole day of long walks, picture taking and shopping, we all went back to the hotel to give the day a rest. Halloween season is the perfect time to talk about paranormal events, and so my friends shared their own experience. I was too tired to listen so I just lay down and tried to get a nice snooze. My eyes were closed but my mind was still working, thinking about what would happen at tomorrow's festival and remembering the face of the lady I saw at the airport. She was pale. Her face was full of remorse. It seems like she needed some help. Suddenly I realized - what the heck was a bride doing inside the airport? Feeling some chills in my neck, I tried to shut my eyes as tightly as I could and forced myself to sleep just to forget about the thought that she is a ghost.

Then, October 31 came, the day we've all been waiting for. We had fun looking and taking pictures of Chinese kids wearing costumes of fairies, zombies and a much more. They look so cute with their outfits. Then the parade of the teens came. Some look spooky while others looked goofy. When I was taking a few random shots, I saw the lady again, looking at me. The same bride I saw at the airport wearing the same gown. I was about to take her a photo but when I looked at my camera lens, she was not there anymore.

We went back to the hotel after the parade. I felt so exhausted so I went to the bathroom and washed my face. I locked the door so that no one would come in. When the water was already gushing from the faucet I noticed that the room became misty and the mirror became cloudy. When I brushed it off I saw the bride once more, and now she was behind me. I was so shocked, that my first instinct was to face her. To my surprise, she was right there! I got the chance to look at her closely and I saw that she had stitches on her head, one eye is missing and blood is dripping from her chest.

I screamed as loud as I could. I kept on bashing the door so that my friends would open it up for me because my hands were trembling too much from what I saw. That's a very frightening experience I had with the Hong Kong bride.
