I have written this in the style of a story, but that is just how I write - it is a true story about my older sister.
One summer, Aileen went to Pangasinan for vacation at her friend Larry's house, with the rest of her peers.
"Life is simple where we live," said Larry to his friends who were not used to depending on lamps for light and having to fetch water from the deep well for their bathwater and other needs. Still, the bonafide city dwellers loved the fact that the beach that was only a ten minute walk from Larry's house. They enjoyed the many picnics and swimming outings they had there. They also had a blast pigging out on mangos, lemons, and jackfruit.
Included in the gang were Ronnel, Aileen's boyfriend, two other girls - Cynthia and Flor - and Marco who has a secret crush on Aileen.
Aileen kind of knew that Marco liked her but it was not until they took this vacation that she felt the intensity of his feelings for her. Marco would help her with chores. He'd even give her his share of mangos and fetch water from the well for her. Anything she wanted, he was at her heels ready to obey.
Ronnel sensed Marco's attraction to his girl and became very jealous and angry. He would snap at Aileen, who tried to defend herself. Eventually, Ronnel started avoiding her and Marco.
As the days passed, Aileen would constantly feel someone was looking at her intently. If the look were kind, good and appreciative, she'd turn around and see Marco smiling at her. If it was angry, she didn't have to look; she knew it was her boyfriend. Sometimes though, she'd feel another presence and look up to find no one looking at her.
She wondered who it was. Was it her two girl friends? Were they jealous of the fact that two guys were in love with her? Does somebody have a crush on Marco or Rommel and hated her for it?
She couldn't bear the penetrating feeling of those eyes so usually she just looks down and kept quiet. It was turning out to be a very awful vacation.
One time, Aileen was in the bathroom when she suddenly felt those awful eyes staring at her again. Goosebumps surfaced on her skin. She began to question whether creatures of the dark exist. And then she thought of her companions.
Could it be the girls? But then, why would they follow her to the bathroom? Suddenly, she became nervous at the thought that Marco was following her. Could he have turned into a stalker who was just waiting for the right opportunity to attack?
Aileen didn't know what to do. Unintentionally, she turned to look at the windows. There, she saw a pair of eyes glowing in the dark. She definitely thought it was Marco, and went for the window hopping mad to confront her admirer. But when she got there, all she saw were strands of hair on the ledge, hair that looked like part of a tail. The owner of the eyes had disappeared.
